Walking the Red Carpet Premiere of Vince Vaughn’s latest film, Delivery Man, I had no expectations about the film. In a nutshell, his character, David Wozniak is a delivery driver for his family’s meat company and seemingly content to exist in a state of perpetual mediocrity.
While David has a good heart, charming everyone he comes in contact with, he is immature, unfocused, in serious debt and in desperate need of some sense of direction in his life. That all changes when he finds out that he is the biological father of 533 children and 142 of them are suing to learn his identity.
Vince Vaughn films for the most part has him playing the lovable Everyman role, but I found that Delivery Man” was definitely a departure for him as an actor. Delivery Man on the surface sounds like it will be just an another Vince Vaughn comedy. Seriously, sperm donor, 533 kids, cue laugh track.
Yes, as you would imagine as he discovers his kids, he begins to understand how good it feels to put the interests of others ahead of his own. His character wants to see the kids excel in life and secretly helps them. Surprisingly, Delivery Man is a touching story filled with twists, turns, some of which you don’t see coming. But don’t worry, this moving while touching, and emotional is also funny. Chris Pratt as David’s best friend, and stay at home father of four is hilarious.
In fact, the supporting cast is great especially the young actors who are David’s kids. The vignettes about their life are inherently interesting. I was happy that each kid was not perfect. When David finds outs one of this kids is New York Knick you see the elation on his face but that would not be the case for all his kids which made the moving all the more realistic for me. Some scenes will make you as a parent have an aha moment of how much your parents actually mean to you.
I really liked this movie, can you tell and really would like to see it again with my daughter. This film definitely provides audiences the Vince Vaughn everyman humor but also provides a more mature Vince Vaughn.
Definitely put Delivery Man on your holiday movie viewing list and you will be surprised at this heartfelt comedy about the complexities of life, seizing the day and becoming the person you are destined to be.
