Wisdom – Best Decisions of 2010 #Reverb10

December 14, 2010 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Single Mom Daily Life

Reverb 10 is an annual event and online initiative started by Gwen Bell to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next. Reverb 10 provides participants with an opportunity to reflect on what’s happened, and to send out reverberations for the year ahead. With Reverb 10 – and the 31 prompts the 31 authors have created,  I am trying to complete each  prompt everyday but some of them are tough and take me a long to time to write.

I am running behind on my prompts. Yikes!!

December 10: Prompt: Wisdom. What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out? Author: Susannah Conway Unravelling @photobird

This is a tough question. “Wise” is a relative term and decisions come in big and small types versions. Life-altering decisions and small little ones that may not be life-altering but are just plain practical and of course,  you may think it’s a wise decision and others may not but to hell with them, right.

So I am going to cover four “wise” decisions that I made this year.

1) Starting a business with a former colleague. I haven’t the vaguest idea if this is actually a wise decision or how it will turn out but I am positive that in the end it that it will change my life.

2) Continued Seeing a Therapist – Back in the spring, my therapist asked if I wanted to continue seeing her since I had run out of things to “work” on. I decided to continue seeing her for the simple reason, that I felt given I really needed an objective listener and a cheerleader who has no agenda. Everyone likes to hear they are doing a good job parenting and without any underlying I am not living your life judgments and that’s what she provides.  That is something my family doesn’t get. I realize their comments/advice are said with positive intent and would be “hurt” or “offended” that I think this way but 10-15 minute conversations doesn’t replace regular/inperson visits.

3) Going to DisneyWorld – Odd right but not really. I love DisneyWorld and I think every child should be able to go especially when they are young but I hate crowds and lines. Ironic, I know since I live in NYC and yet I hate crowds. Taking my daughter out of school for one day during the first week of school was the best decision ever. Without that push, I have no idea if or when my daughter would have made it to DisneyWorld before her teen years. Not only did we save money by going off season, I did not have to endure long lines or the crowds.

4) Inviting my brother to live with us – Everyone’s reaction is always and where is going to stay in our small one bedroom. That aside, my brother coming to stay with us has been great for my daughter and me. Where he ends up in 2011 is anyone’s guess but it’s better than where he came from.
