Riding and Jogging on the Open Road with Summer Streets

August 16, 2010 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Single Mom Daily Life

This past weekend, we took advantage  of the Summer Streets program. Park Avenue from Central Park down to the Brooklyn Bridge is blocked off for three consecutive weekends so that everyone can enjoy riding their bike, walking, jogging or just plain strolling unencumbered by cars.

My daughter was thrilled at first to be able to ride for blocks at a time without having to stop. The problem is that she is not used to the riding rules of the road and would continually turn into right or left. A couple of times, she almost caused an accident. She sort of got the hang of it.

And what was I doing while she sped down Park Avenue, jogging. Yes, jogging. Good god, I am out of shape when it comes to running.

Needless to say, I ached at the end of day.

But it was a great morning and a great workout.
