Enjoying the View of Paris from Montmartre Sacre Coeur Church

October 22, 2013 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: International, Travel

See Paris from the Montmartre Sacre Coeur Church

During a recent visit to Paris, my daughter and I found a MUST SEE sight I wanted to share with my readers.  In Paris is  Sacré-Coeur Basilica (Basilica of the Sacred Heart), located at  top of the Montmartre.  Paul Abadie designed an immense basilica in a Roman-Byzantyne style unlike most buildings in France at the time. While the Eiffel Tower is one of most famous sites in Paris, the Sacré-Coeur Basilica is the highest point in the city, making the view of Paris even more breathtaking than the view from the Eiffel Tower.

Of course due to it’s height, it is noticeable from other major Paris attractions. And something I learned recently is that stones that make up the church are Château-Landon stones which when it rains acts as a bleach maintaining it’s pristine white color.

You have the option to walk up the steps or take the Funiculaire.  Funny story, I told my daughter when I first came to Paris, I was a starving college student who couldn’t afford to take the Funiculaire and had to walk.  Needless to say, we opted to take the Funiculaire.

Sacré-Coeur Basilica  may be out the way but it is so worth adding to your list of places to visit in Paris. The view from the top is just amazing.

While visiting Paris some other must see sites include the Notre Dame, window shopping on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and if you are looking for someplace special to stay, I highly recommend the Hyatt Paris Madeleine, located on a quintessentially Parisian Boulevard Malesherbes in La Madeleine in the 8th arrondissment.

Have you ever been to Paris? Do you have a favorite site that can’t be missed? We love to hear from our readers, so be sure to share with us in the comments.
