New Pool Experiences for International Swimming Pool Day on July 11

June 25, 2024 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Travel

The annual International Swimming Pool Day is July 11th. This yearly event is celebrated globally as a time to get outside and enjoy the summer sun at local pools.

To mark the day, two notable NYC hotel rooftop pools open to the public, Hotel Indigo Williamsburg and the TWA Hotel are great options to celebrate International Swimming Pool Day.

Hotel Indigo Williamsburg’s reimagined pool club provides views of the city and Brooklyn’s best neighborhood.  The summer-themed, runway-adjacent pool at the TWA Hotel, where guests and public visitors can experience the thrill of seeing airplanes take off from JFK International in the heated infinity-edge pool.

Aliya Cocktail Den & Pool Club – Hotel Indigo Williamsburg

Hotel Indigo Williamsburg, an IHG Hotels & Resorts hotel in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, reopened its outdoor pool lounge for the 2024 season as Aliya Cocktail Den & Pool Club. The space is located on the fourth-floor terrace, accessed through the hotel’s main lobby. Helmed by food and beverage operator Brook & Lyn Eating, the newly renovated pool deck sits adjacent to Aliya Cocktail Den which opened in January 2024. Both the Cocktail Den & Pool Club invite guests into a realm where Caribbean and Asian influences seamlessly meld.

Helmed by renowned Chef Scotley Innis, the space is a culinary journey infused with inventive delights inspired by his Jamaican roots. A welcomed alternative to the rowdy scenes around New York City, Aliya Cocktail Den & Pool Club offers a laid-back atmosphere and secluded oasis above the streets of Brooklyn. The 70-foot pool—heated according to the outdoor temperature—offers guests quintessential Williamsburg views and vistas of the Manhattan skyline, and the deck also offers private cabanas by reservation. The Cocktail Den itself is a speakeasy-like space—accessible via an elevator entered from a cozy “hidden” check-in area off of the hotel’s main lobby. The space offers a seamless day-to-night atmosphere: by day, the indoor bar and lounge is drenched with light; come evening, panoramic views to the west offer the perfect poolside summer sunset. By nightfall, the den’s intimate atmosphere is enhanced by ambient lighting that envelopes guests in mystery and romance reminiscent of a bygone era.

The Endless Summer at TWA Hotel

The celebrated TWA Hotel at New York City’s JFK International Airport preserves famed architect Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA Flight Center, restoring the 1962 architectural landmark to its “Jet Age” condition for city locals and travelers alike to enjoy. Lauded for its convenience, attention to detail and traveler-friendly amenities, the TWA Hotel has also become the standard bearer for adaptive reuse in architecture done right and a symbol of the evolution of hospitality in NYC. Spots like The Sunken Lounge (former passenger waiting area) and the Connie Cocktail Lounge (a parked-on-site 1958 Lockheed Constellation airliner transformed into a bar) are sure to transport guests straight to the 60s era of travel.

This month, the 512-room hotel’s rooftop Pool Bar has transformed to its summer theme with 60s style decor based on the classic 1960s surfing documentary The Endless Summer. Its temperature controlled infinity pool invites traveling guests on layovers and locals on a staycation to cool off at – with a seasonally-themed cocktail in hand. Heated up to 95 degrees and cooled down during hot days, the 10,000-square-foot observation deck’s pool is purified every 30 minutes (a standard pool recirculates every 6 hours). The infinity pool sits on the horizon of a thrilling scene — JFK’s bustling Runway 4 Left/22 Right, with views all the way to Jamaica Bay. At 12,079 feet long, 4L/22R is one of the biggest runways at JFK, the fifth-busiest airport in the United States. Guests can watch jets bearing the livery of American Airlines, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Delta, and 70 other carriers take off and land on the stretches of tarmac just feet beyond the hotel.
