Tips for Earth Day Tips on How to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
- Give Up Plastic and Paper Bags – Did you know that twelve million barrels of oil were used to make the 88.5 billion plastic bags used in the US last year, and about 14 million trees are cut down each year to produce paper bags. It easy to give plastic and paper bags, just purchase a few reusable shopping bags and keep them in your car or bag for convenience on your next shopping trip. I always carry a reusable bag with me for those impromptu purchases and certainly take along reusable bags for my weekly supermarket trips.
- Use Homemade Cleaners – Create a greener, cleaner home by using all-natural, environmentally-friendly cleaners that are made from ingredients that can already be found in your pantry. You can use lemon for those household germs while white vinegar cuts grease and removes odors and stains.
- Drink More Water – Did you know that the earth is made up of 75% water and your body is made up of 70% water? This is no coincidence… Stay healthy this Earth Day with Mother Nature’s original refreshment. There are many flavored products as well as lemons and limes that can spice up water. I am big user of lemons in my water.
- Repurpose – Spring is not just about cleaning but it’s also a time for home renovations and sprucing up the home. Check out thrift stores, Craigs List or other resources to purchase new items for the home. Buying a used coffee table, painting, adding new handles provides a fun time for you to reuse but also saves a tree.
- Opt-Out of Excess Mail- Rather than just shredding your junk mail, take the time by opting-out for pre-screened credit card offers and cancel magazine and catalog subscriptions that you don’t read or that have digital editions.
