11 Christmas Vacation Ideas For Families

October 27, 2019 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Travel

Christmas is just around the corner. I have already started my shopping if you can believe it. But the most important part of managing the holiday season is what are we going to do for a vacation. Are you in the same boat?

Every year is different because I have to consider my budget, so our Christmas vacations have run the gamut from going to a theme park like Disney World or visiting all the festivities New York City has to offer like seeing the Rockettes or heading to the beach. Of course, we all need to consider visiting with relatives. It is amazing how when my daughter was a toddler, we visited numerous relatives. So counterintuitive since as a single mom, dealing with car seats, strollers, and carry-ons were not fun but having my daughter hang with cousins was important to me and memories she will have forever.  I am sure this sounds familiar right.

After coming up with all my Christmas Vacation Ideas, my number one tip for deciding on a Christmas vacation is involving my daughter in the decision making. Kids are a great sounding board and frankly, going on a vacation when they are not into the choice will not be fun.

Here are 11 Christmas Vacation Ideas for you to consider.

What are your Christmas Vacation plans?

I think the snow vacation is a great way to spend the winter months and enjoy the season. Skiiing, sledding and cross country skiing are fun ways to enjoy the colder months when we get away.

That sounds like a lot of activities that is sure to keep the family busy.

I like to change our vacation destinations each year. One year snow and cold and the other year something warm with lots of sand

We seem to gravitate to warmer destinations but I would love to plan a snow/ski Christmas break.

Changing up the vacation venue every year is such a great idea and doing different things every year sounds like so much fun.

It is always good to plan some activities for Christmas break. It is a long time to be off school and keep the kids occupied.

All I can is I agree, one must keep those kids busy during the break.

No big plans this year but I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights display. It’s so beautiful! Hopefully I’ll be able to view in person someday.

I am with you. The northern lights is a bucket list destination.

I was thinking we might go to a theme park this year. I’d much rather go to another state to see my mom, but it may not happen this year.

It always tough to not see family. We did that for years and then switched it up as family started to move away. This year, it was a must to connect with family.

I love these ideas! I wish we could go on a cruise. We usually just stay home though. With the holidays, things are hectic enough as it is, so it’s just easier.

LOVE that graphic!! This year we are going to Panama. HOWEVER – we are not taking our son. Ha! He will only be 1 years old… So my parents will be watching him for the week my husband and I are gone!

We visited St. Simons last year over the holiday season. It was warm, and the weather was awesome! It is something we want to do every year.

As long as I’m with Family I don’t care where Christmas is. I’m not a big fan of the cold but I will do anything for my family. You have some wonderful ideas here.

I know our family would love the Polar Express! I am a sucker for colonial times, and Williamsburg is ideal for that. Great vacation list!

We’re planning a Christmas vacation for this year. We’ve decided to rent a cabin in the Smoky Mountains for our whole family. We’re really excited about it.

We live in SoCal but we are going to the colder climate this winter, so we are looking forward to introducing our kids to skiing and snow!

Great considerations for Christmas vacation with kids! For now, since we have a one-year-old baby, we wouldn’t be traveling to snowy areas yet.

My family has never been on vacation during the Holidays. I really like waking up Christmas morning, starting my day of cooking and opening presents. Even more so in recent years because of my two grandkids. I like to keep it nice and relaxed!
