EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Harrison Ford @StarWars #StarWarsEvent #TheForceAwakens

December 11, 2015 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment, Movies

It’s hard to say who is the most popular Star Wars character but I bet many would say Han Solo is their favorite and Harrison Ford is the reason why.  I am one of those fans who would say he is my favorite character because Han Solo’s charm, arrogance and sarcastic nature. And he it doesn’t hurt that he has that bad boy thing going for him.

As you can imagine with a worldwide press junket for  Star Wars: The Force Awakens,  actors can get a bit tired from it all but Mr. Ford who is now in his early 70’s was gracious and polite answering all our questions in a honest and no nonsense manner. Mr. Ford was our first interview of the junket and the room was just buzzing in anticipation waiting for him and then walked in the room. It was hard to not clap giving him a mini -ovation. I think he was bit taken aback  because I am sure journalists do not clap when their interviewee enters a room.

And let me just say that even though he is in early 70’s, Harrison Ford is just as handsome in person as he is in photos.

Harrison Ford Interview

What’s New is Old Again

While he doesn’t have any memorable anecdotes to tell, he told us that it was “great to be back with Mark and Carrie.” He also had the opportunity to work with the sons and daughters of the people who worked on the original crew. It’s rare that years later anyone can say that.

He was also thrilled to be back in England since he had not been there since the last Indiana Jones movie (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – May 2008). “The food has gotten a lot better.”

“I thought it was worth coming back for a Director who work I admired” and knew from film twenty five years ago. Harrison Ford worked with J.J. Abrams on Regarding Henry who was  the screenwriter for the movie.

Acknowledging the Legacy of Star Wars

For Star Wars fans like myself, it’s hard to tell if the original stars of the movie “get” the importance of a generation passing on our love of the movies to our kids. My daughter has seen most of the movies and likes them a lot. Does she get how important they were to me? A bit.  So it made me feel good that Harrison does “get” it and was very forthright in telling us that he would have “a different career” if not for the films having been passed on by parents to their children and that generations have been introduced to him.

Props and Toys

He is not a collector of Star Wars toys of any kind especially of himself. “I don’t get caught up in the toys. That’s for other people.”

Best Quote of the Interview

“A great deal of this is a service occupation. Story telling is a service occupation much like being a waiter.”

Fun Fact that had nothing to do with Star Wars

Harrison Ford bought his horse and Daniel Craig’s horse after they starred in “Cowboy’s and Aliens.”

You can tell how gracious an actor is that they are willing to stay a bit extra to answer all of our questions. Remember all the stars are booked all day going from one journalist to another and being interviewed by the entertainment shows. So when our publicist asks if they mind taking a photo and then he  patiently waits for everyone to get into place for the photo, it says something about the person.

And then of course, there are fans like me who could not resist shaking his hand and thanking for all the Star Wars movies.  Yes, I shook Harrison Ford’s hand.  I am still shaking from that Star Wars Fan Girl  moment.

Where’s Linda
