REVIEW: Daddy’s Home Starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg Brings Home Hilarity Just in Time for Holiday Viewing

December 23, 2015 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment, Movies

DADDY’S HOME follows a mild-mannered radio executive (Will Ferrell) who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife’s two children, but complications ensue when their freewheeling and freeloading real father (Mark Wahlberg) arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the kids.

DADDY'S HOME

Daddy’s Home Review:
Admittedly, I am fans of both Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg.  There is so much to like about this movie. First, I like that for once the Step-Dad is not the evil Step-Dad. Will Farrell’s Step Dad character just wants to be loved by his step-kids and works hilariously hard at it The kids don’t much appreciate it him and are actually mean to him but he keeps trying. Then one day his soon to be arch nemesis, the kids biological dad shows up to the chagrin of his wife. This is where comedy ensues as each dad competes for the love of their kids.
Of course it’s hard to competed with Mark Wahlberg’s cool, six pack, bad-ass dad. Who wouldn’t want the cool dad?  The movie has to have a happy ending right, it’s just not what you would expect. And seriously, it’s not hard to predict how it will end, wrong. I did not see the last two final scenes to end the way they did and I appreciate they did not have a predictable ending because it made the movie so much more enjoyable.

All in all, this is fun-filled, mad-cap movie filled with LOL moments.

My only comment which I thought could have been left out or edited down is Will Farrell’s boss played by Thomas Haden Church. His stories were really inappropriate for a kid’s movie and frankly weren’t that funny.

And from the 12 year old critic,  I love both dads who are very, very funny especially Will Ferrell. “Can I see it again with my friends over the Winter break?’ And that is saying a lot since she just saw her favorite Will Ferrell movie “Elf “right before we saw the movie.
