Disney Pixar Inside Out Review

June 18, 2015 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment, Movies

Disney Pixar “Inside Out” definitely has all the charm, humor, intelligence and heart that Pixar movies  are well known for. “Inside Out”  take us to the most extraordinary location of all—inside the mind.
 Inside Out Characters

Disney Pixar’s Inside Out centers around Riley, a tween girl who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).

inside out emotions, Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith, inside out emotions

The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters.

Inside Out Characters

Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

The writers have without a doubt written one of the best story lines that is sure to make you laugh, think and provide you with deep thoughts about your own childhood. Do not be fooled, this may be an animated film but adults will appreciate what a poignant  thought provoking storyline about the development and understanding of our feelings. And parents of tweens  it will provide some insight into the wacky  mind of tween. And I dare you not to tear up in a few places.

Sadness is my favorite emotion which  is counter intuitive, I know because it seems logical that Joy would be my favorite character because “Joy” is so positive and overflowing with optimism. And I don’t want to give any plot points but no one in life grows up from having “Joy” all their life.  Joy spends much of the movie trying to avoid having Sadness impact Riley but she realizes that Sadness has a purpose in Riley’s life.

Joy and Sadness get ejected from headquarters and must journey to unfamiliar places as they try to get back  – Long Term Memory, Imagination Land, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions.  Along they way the stumble into Bing Bong, Riley’s imaginary friend who is searching for a way for Riley to remember him.  Bing Bong is hilarious but sad at the same time. Who doesn’t remember their imaginary friend?  My daughter and I laughed at her imaginary friend, “lottery.”
To say you will love this movie is an understatement. This movie has so much going for it, memorable characters, lots of heart and just a plain colorful and memorable ride. Even if you don’t have kids,  you will enjoy this movie and will see it in an entirely different way than kids will. The Emotions are worth the price of admission. Lewis Black as Anger is so perfect.
