It’s hard to believe it but the new school year will be beginning again very soon. Much of that time will be spent buying school supplies and a new school wardrobe and of course, getting our kids back into routine (good luck with that.) For me, I like to celebrate the end of the summer and get my daughter excited about heading back to school with some fun last hurrah activities.
6 Back to School Celebration Activities
1. Do something silly. Set up a tent and ‘camp’ in the back yard. Since we live in the city in an apartment, I have to improvise. My daughter likes to set up a tent in her room and we bring the camping indoors. We make s’mores, sit in the tent with a flashlight, tell scary stories and play games. So much fun for both of us.
2. Backwards Day – This is one of my favorite activities because it’s super simple to execute. Have dinner for breakfast (pizza anyone?) and pancakes, eggs and bacon for dinner, so little effort and so much fun. I think it’s the bacon for dinner that makes it a winner for my daughter.
3. Create a scrapbook or photo book – Review all the photos you took over the summer and choose photos for the scrapbook. This is the perfect time to bond and reminisce about the summer. Don’t forget to include ticket stubs and other memorabilia.
4. Enjoy a Mani/Pedi – What’s not to love about going for a mani/pedi? It’s relaxing, it’s a treat and most of all, a great bonding experience for mother and daughter. Of course, if you have a boy, this won’t work so why not head to the movies or download an old school movie to watch together.
5. Plan a last hurrah, party or head to play to visit in your hometown – There is always one activity I am planning to do at the beginning of the summer but never get to so why not make it your last hurrah! This year, we are headed to the Queens Museum of Art.
6. Plan a playdate with a special friend – Most of my daughter’s friends head off to sleepaway camp or traveling throughout the summer so this is a really special treat to reconnect with a friend before school starts up again.
What’s your last hurrah event before school begins?
