As we head into 2011, this week is about reflection. I found this post while cleaning up the bugaboos on my site and thought how apropos. This post originally ran in July 27, 2009.
Until we lose ourselves there is no hope of finding ourselves. By Henry Miller (author of Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn). P.S. if you have no idea who Henry Miller or his books, they were quite racy for their storyline. I read them years ago and yikes. Now of course, considering all the porn on the net, they are tame in comparison
I came across this quote as I walking the other day and thought it was appropriate for me and many others.
We sometimes go along with the status quo (be it the same job, relationships, habits) because we can’t figure how to change, we are afraid of fear change, adding more responsibilities to our life, inertia, etc. And we know this can go on years until we end up lost. Sometimes we don’t even know we are lost until something jolts us into the here and now.
Sure this is not the best time to be laid off and searching for a job but would I have started this blog otherwise, would have reconnected with former colleagues, gotten healthier, started writing a book, met new friends from my blog? All a big fat no!!! (This is so of the moment when I wrote it and still stands today.)
So here’s to finding myself and to you finding yourself (in 2011.)
What are you doing to find yourself, today, this week?
And I was updating the post, I found another quote which I find just plain wonderful.
The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware; joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware. – Henry Miller
This is going to me my motto for 2011.
