This weekend, I remembered to go see the Ernesto Neto’s anthropodino installation at the Park Avenue Armory and I am so glad that I did. Neto is a Brazilian artist who is known for his large scale installations. I will be honest, I had not heard of him but that means nothing since I am more drawn to traditional painting and sculptures.
Antropodino is a truly interactive installation that can best be described as cavernous and ethereal at the same time. There are lots of gauzy tunnels to run through and hide. All through out the tunnels are these hanging pods that contain different spices from cloves to lavender to cumin.
As if the running through the tunnels, peaking through holes and smelling the pods was not enough, the most appealing part of the installation was a pool filled with thousands of plastic balls. As you can imagine as anyone who has been to Chucky Cheese, a pool of balls and kids go together like olive oil and balsamic vinegar, a natural fit.
