I grew up reading The Adventures of Tintin by Hergé. So I was interested to see how celebrated film maker Steven Spielberg would interpret Herge’s popular Belgian comic book series to the big screen.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn stars Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliot,” “Defiance”) as Tintin, the young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig (“Quantum of Solace,” “Defiance”) as the nefarious Red Rackham.
Admittedly, I had “heard” that the motion capture of the film was not that great (don’t we remember how freakesh the people looked in The Polar Express) so I was a tad wary about the look but my fears were unfounded. I found the look of the movie beautifully done. I liked this film. It lives up to it’s title, it’s definitely an action adventure film for kids and adults. It’s laugh out loud funny, has a nefarious villains, a mystery to solve and a cute sidekick, Snowy the dog. And for laughs, two Interpol twin inspectors, Thomson and Thompson. What more could you ask for? That said, as a huge Raiders of the Lost Ark fan, The Adventures of Tintin has more than few reminders of my favorite movie.
That all said, would I recommend the movie for your holiday viewing? Yes, if nothing else to introduce your kids to the Tin Tin and Snowy characters.
