Adoption Advice from Hugh Jackman, Star of Real Steal
Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Hugh Jackman in a roundtable with other members of the press and was lucky enough to get a question in. Rather than ask about his latest starring role as a washed up fighter in Real Steel (if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it, as a must see family movie, click here for my review); I mentioned that my daughter is experiencing a bit of bullying around her being adopted and wanted to know if his children had experienced this and did he have any advice.
Check out his response on the Interview below:
What I loved about his response was his openness and honesty with communicating with the school administrators I do think that I have avoided even having these types of conversations with the administration or even her teachers but I am going to reconsider how to go about moving forward with being more proactive with the teacher and parents. As they say, sometimes the only advocate your child has is you.
For any adoptive parents, have you been proactive in discussing adoption with your child’s teacher? Would love to hear your thoughts on how you handle this topic.

I did not know his kids were adopted. That’s really cool that he gave you good advice. It sounded very heartfelt and genuine. Good luck with talking to her teachers.

A good contact to the school is necessary in my opinion, there are so many things you can catch upfront then. One thing is what is going on at home, another is school.
