Looking for a weekend getaway, consider Mount Airy Casino Resort, Pennsylvania’s only 4 Diamond Casino Resort located in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. The resort features 188 newly renovated rooms, entertainment options galore, a gorgeous pool, a first class spa and surprise, casinos.
This was my first trip to the Poconos and my first trip to Mount Airy Casino Resort. In fact, I vaguely remember the old Mount Airy so I had no expectations. By the end of my weekend, I have to say that I think it’s a very well-thought out resort for a wide variety of visitors, from the millennial set, to parents looking for a weekend getaway, bachelorette party goers to senior citizens and finally a family getaway and when I mean family getaway, I mean adult kids. I did see some families with younger kids but not sure if there is enough to do to keep the kids occupied for an entire weekend.
5 Reasons Why Visiting Mount Airy Casino Resort is a great Weekend Getaway
1. The Hotel Rooms
The Mount Airy Casino Resort hotel room are attractively design with a modern flare. The room offered plenty of room to enjoy relaxing when not wandering the property. The king size bed was extremely comfortable offering a much needed restful sleep. The room also includes access to free internet, flat screen televisions and a coffee maker. If you feel like eating in, a quick call for room service offers a great variety to suit your palate. There are snacks and water in the room but you have to pay for them and they are sensored so don’t touch anything because you will be charged.
2. Fine Dining Options
There are several dining options to choose from at the resort and I am sure there is one that will tantalize your taste buds including The Buffet, Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen, Bistecca by Il Mulino, Red Mango Yogurt and Lucky 8 Noodle and Sushi Bar. During my stay, I ate at Guy Fieri’s Mt. Pocono Kitchen, BISTECCA by Il Mulino and Lucky 8 Noodle and Sushi Bar.
BISTECCA by Il Mulino
The resort offers Italian fare courtesy of BISTECCA by Il Mulino that includes a wide assortment of exquisite hand-crafted pasta dishes, local seafood and steaks to delight all you foodies.
For my entree, I went with the A.B. Boneless Rib Eye Steak paired with Green Peppercorn and Cognac Cream because it’s called Bistecca for a reason. It was truly outstanding and delicious.
I also ordered as an appetizer, a organic beet salad which was really quite yummy. The dressing was perfect, very light and a great way to start the meal off.
Our wait staff (we had three waiters) attended to all our requests, just a nice group that waited on us. BISTECCA by Il Mulino offers impeccable service, ambiance and a varied menu selections making this an amazing dining experience. Definitely make a reservation.
Guy Fieri’s Mount Pocono Kitchen
Guy Fieri’s Mount Pocono Kitchen has a very homey, diner-like feel to the decor but don’t be fooled by it’s casual, friendly atmosphere and its’ very American fare. The menu includes the standard burgers, mac n’ cheese but it has a very eclectic selection. I ordered the American Royal Ribs, St. Louis style ribs which I have no idea what that means but I will say the ribs were quite tasty. I recommend the 1/2 slab which comes with cornbread and coleslaw. That is definitely enough for one person with enough to share with your dinner mates. For me the outstanding choice of the meal were the Sashimi Tacos with crispy taco shells are made out of wonton. It was truly delicious, light , fresh and perfectly made. If you love sashimi order them as an appetizer or a meal paired with another appetizer or salad.
And let me not forget the Truffle Fries, just delicious.
Guy Fieri’s is open 24 hours, so feel free to indulge during the rest of the day.
3. Get Wet Pool
The Get Wet pool definitely feels very modern and hip. That said, it is the perfect way to relax and take a break in the day. Even if you don’t go in the pool, I didn’t. I was happy just to rest and read the paper. The Get Wet Pool offers both an indoor and outdoor section. Don’t want to leave to find food, there is a bar/snack bar right so you can ordered food and drinks.
4. Spa at Mount Airy for True Relaxation
Want the ultimate relaxation week then head to the Spa at Mount Airy for True Relaxation. I had the pleasure of enjoying a massage to get rid of all my stress (and I have a lot.) Looking for other services, this a full service salon that offers everything from body wraps, manicures/pedicure or even get a new hairstyle. There is also dry and wet sauna. I would recommend allowing at least 2 hours for the service you opt for to be able to indulge in the relaxation room and sauna. Why rush out right!
5. Entertainment Options
Who knew there would entertainment but the Gypsies Lounge at Mount Airy offers a wide variety of choices throughout the year. The weekend we went, we had a fun and hilarious time watching the The Hunks The Show. That’s right, I think we will be talking about the show for years to come. Definitely check their schedule because it is a variety of acts that come to the resort. The Gypsies Lounge is a small and intimate venue so there is no bad seat in the house.
6. The Casino
Whether you are play the penny slots or a serious poker player or everyone in between, Mount Airy caters to every level of player so you can always get in on the action. The casino offers a wide range of slot machines, card tables including black jack, poker and baccarat, roulette and craps. Serious poker players can head to the third floor to play. Of course, Mount Airy offers tournaments. Be forewarned the casino does allow smoking on one half of the floor. If smoke really bothers you, there is a non-smoking floor but I found to not be so much fun as the casino floor so I just found the non-smoking section and played there. There is something about the noise of the casino that makes it more fun to play.
Do I recommend Mount Airy Casino Resort? Yes because I do think it has many amenities for a relaxing and fun getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And best of all, its only 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour drive from New York City area.
Now what if you are not a gambler which I will admit I am not, you can still have fun playing a bit on the slots, I think they are fun and relaxing. You can still hang out at the pool, take in the spa, enjoy a great meal or just plain do nothing at all. Isn’t that point of weekend getaway.
My only suggestion is that it would be nice if there was walking trail/sidewalk around the resort. It’s a gorgeous property so I think it’s nice respite to be able to walk around and get some fresh air.
