“FUN FOR ALL AGES” REVIEW: The Big Apple Circus Returns to Lincoln Center with the World Premiere of The Grand Tour

October 26, 2015 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment

Big Apple Circus returns to the Big Top at Lincoln Center for the company’s 38th season with the World Premiere of its all-new show, The Grand Tour! And my daughter and I were privy to seeing the new show.

The new show  transports audiences to the Roaring 1920s, the advent of the modern travel era, when the most adventuresome began to tour the world in ships, planes, trains, and automobiles. With every seat less than 50 feet from the stage, audiences will be awed by the world-class entertainers as they perform breathtaking acts from the four corners of the globe.

Four-time Big Apple Circus ringmaster John Kennedy Kane returns to introduce a variety of stunning performers.

Clowns, jugglers, acrobats, and aerialists from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America appear with ponies, puppies and more; the troupe sets off on its own whirlwind adventure, accompanied by the live, seven-piece Big Apple Circus Band at each of more than 100 performances.

Over the years, my daughter and I have attended many Big Apple Circus shows and like the previous shows, we loved the newest The Grand Tour. Along with being so close to the main ring (there isn’t a bad seat in the arena), we love the diversity of acts. Each act is so unique offering up “awe-inspiring”,  “how do they do that?” and “awesome comments throughout the show.   This is one of the best events and I think is a circus for kids of all ages including tweens. Of course, parents will love it too. There are so many acts we loved but thought the Dominguez brothers death defying aerial act was scary and cool. And it’s hard not to love all the animals the show has. And for laughs, clowns Joel Jeske and Brent McBeth kept us entertained in between acts. The musical chairs segments featuring members of the audience was one of the hilarious highlights of the show.

I think it’s unfair to your readership to use photos of past seasons’ performances to illustrate this season’s show. It’s also unfair to the circus, because people who see performers in costumes from shows they saw in the past might not buy tickets if they think it’s the same show they already saw.
