Visiting the Best Zoo in the Country @San Diego Zoo

May 28, 2014 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: California, Travel

Who doesn’t love going to the zoo? The San Diego Zoo is world renowned for having over 3,700 rare and endangered animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies as well as  having a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 plants.

The zoo offers guided bus tours that are perfect for those who may grow tired easily. We only hopped on the bus once. There is really a steep  hill up to the Polar Bear Plunge exhibit otherwise we made it through without taking the bus.

We spent the entire day at the zoo arriving just after opening and did not even touch the surface of walking all the trails and seeing all the animals. You and your kids will be thoroughly entertained, be in awe and learn so much from your visit.

Our favorite animals from visit to the Zoo

Koala  Bears

Rhinos – This one was enamored with knocking around the huge ball in his pen.

San Diego Zoo Rhino

Pandas – there are three pandas currently at the zoo, Bai Yun, Gao Gao and Xiao Liwu. I have no idea which panda is seen here.

4 tips for visiting the San Diego Zoo:

  1. Get there early because you really do need the entire day and even then you will not see everything.
  2. Go see the pandas early in the morning. As you can imagine, the pandas are very  popular and everyone wants to see them. If you go early, the line is pretty short and you will be able to take photos without having to jostle for a position or irritate those behind you. We walked by the panda exhibit later in the day and the line was really long and not moving very quickly.
  3. Bring snacks – it goes without saying that you will save money by bringing your own snacks.
  4. Because the zoo is so expansive located on 100 acres, you  definitely need to wear comfortable walking shoes.

The one regret I have is not  taking advantage of  the Skyfari aerial tram which offered up a bird’s-eye view of many of the habitats. How cool, right! Next time.

I highly recommend visiting the San Diego Zoo when visiting the city as it really is an great opportunity to see a birds of all species and  animals from around the world,  all in one location.

I was lucky enough to visit the San Diego zoo once and it was amazing! I didn’t do the tram either, which I regret. I live in Philadelphia, so we have a great zoo here as well, but San Diego was something else.

Right now it sounds like BlogEngine is the best blogging platform out
there right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your
    blog?
