Getting Laid: Everything You Need to Know About Raising Chickens, Gardening and Preserving with Over 100 Recipes!
A bit about the author Barb Webb
Barb Webb is a sustainable living expert nesting in Appalachian Kentucky. When she’s not chasing chickens around the farm or engaging in mock Jedi battles, she’s writing about country living and artisan culture and raising her kids with her husband. I have personally met Barb at a couple of blog events and I have to admit I was curious about her “sustainable” life living on her rural Kentucky farm. She set me straight that she doesn’t expect everyone to be able to live her lifestyle especially someone like me who will never raise chickens or have space to start a garden but I will definitely be able to make changes in my lifestyle that makes me more green.
Preserving Your Bounty is sucha useful chapter for preserving organic vegetables and fruits I pick up at the Farmers Market or when I go apple picking. It’s that time of year right. What the heck do you do with all those apples? Well, there is a super easy applesauce recipe in the book, I can’t wait to make.
My other favorite chapter is Get Wild: Celebrating Your DIY Style. If you are like me, you may want to be more DIY, organic and just be more mindful of gift making, and about the types of beauty products you use but are lazy like me. The chapter has so many great ideas for you to make. They are so super simple to make like Honey Sugar Shower scrub and Essential Oils Air Freshener plus they are so much cheaper than buying the pre-made version and healthier for you.
But my favorite chapter are the recipes. One of my favorite recipes and so simple to make is the Easy Cheesy Chicken recipe and click here for the recipe.
Definitely consider this book for yourself or with the holidays coming up as a gift for a friend or family member who is interested in living a more sustainable life.
I actually gave a copy of the book to my good friend, Shirl who just moved to the burbs with her husband. She now has a huge backyard with enough space to start a garden something she could never do in her Brooklyn apartment. And because she is amazing cook, she can’t wait to test out the over 100 recipes in the book.
Disclosure: NYC Single Mom received a copy of Getting Laid: Everything You Need to Know About Raising Chickens, Gardening and Preserving with Over 100 Recipes! to facilitate this review.

Linda, thank you so much for this lovely review! I really enjoyed reading your insights and am so glad to learn that you found so much of the content practical for incorporating into your eco efforts! You did a splendid job on the chicken, it’s plated so beautifully. I think I will have to hide that pic from my family else they be disappointed I don’t serve it us as pretty! So glad we’ve had the chance to spend time together and I truly hope the universe sees fit to bring us together again, soon!!
