I headed to my first training session with Christine, my trainer at Lucille Roberts. Before, I started my session, I did about 20 minutes of cardio, mostly running. It sounds like an excuse but I had to stop mid-way because I had not had a chance to buy new cross -trainers and was wearing my Pumas which are not a running shoe.
Onto the main event, to say my first session was hard and I sweated in our 3o minutes together is an understatement. Now for the record, I have had trainers before and worked with them for 60 minutes at a time but I never worked so hard in the 30 minutes Christine put me through my paces. And I think it’s because I am truly out of shape.
Christine was great throughout my session, very supportive, no yelling but firm in making me complete my tasks. I did some exercises I had not done before. What I love about Christine’s philosophy is that she wants to work as many muscles as possible. I had to use weights through most of the workout while doing leg work which is really is tough. You trying jumping across a bosu ball while holding weights and not fall off.
At the end of our session, I was just happy I survived. I do know after this experience that I am really not working at my true potential during my current workouts. I left my session just sweating buckets and out of breath. As I mentioned early, one of my goals is not to be out of breath walking up stairs.
Stay tuned for my next session.
In the meantime, I am going to work on the food part of my journey. I am pretty sure how many calories, I am supposed to be eating but I decided to calculate my BMR or Basic Metabolic Rate which in essence tells you home many calories you should be consuming in a day so as to lose one or two pounds a week which is the rate every doctor will tell you is how much you should lose in a week. According to the BMR calculation, I am supposed to eat 1933 calories a day.
Now I just have to begin recording a food journal, that’s the hard part for me. I am so lazy but will try to get at least 3 entries in this week in addition to getting one class in and hitting the gym three times this week.
