Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibit at the MET – Fashion Friday
Alexander McQueen is the man of the month. McQueen was the fashion house that designed Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cornwall’s wedding dress, was the subject of this year’s MET Costume Institute Gala and now an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that celebrates the late Mr. McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion.
Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, is on view May 4 through July 31 and follows his work from his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection in 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010,
What I loved about Alexander McQueen was that he was a true visionary and artist who designed clothes for a living. Viewing the late designer’s work, you see the outlandish (corsets made of human bones, towering shoes made of hoofs, us ordinary women would never wear,) the risqué (the bumster low-riding pants which is responsible for the resurgence of the low-rider pants) and the amazingly beatitiful cut dresses.
I was totally awestruck by his work and the designers that worked with because when I think of Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian “designing” clothes there is no comparison. Don’t get me wrong, “you go Jessica Simpson” on becoming a fashion brand but there will never be a retrospective of her “collections” because there is no there, there.
Even if you don’t like fashion, you will appreciate, the craftmanship, the vision and genius of man who left this world too early. With this exhibit, you really see how he saw beautyl in the uglier and darker aspects of life.
Since visitors weren’t allowed to take photo or videos, my daughter could only take two photos while I was the lookout, check out the New Yorker slide show for a better look at the exhibit.
Tip: Get there early and I mean when it first opens because you want to be able to see the clothes and videos.
Once you are finished viewing the exhibit, head to the MET Rooftop garde for the best view of the New York skyline and Sculptor Anthony Caro’s exhibit.

a true genius, would love to see the exhibit.
I love the Alexander McQueen shoe it is totally unique. How much would these shoes cost to buy? I wonder if they will bring out something similar on the high street in the next coming months.
I told my gradmnohter how you helped. She said, “bake them a cake!”
