What if I had given birth? #Moms4Mom

Moms4Moms

God has plans for us and his plan for me was to become a single mother through adoption. (Okay God, so I am still wondering about the Prince Charming plan but alas,  that is another post for another time.)

Yes, I wonder what if I had gotten married and pregnant. What would my pregnancy have been like or the birth of my child? What would have my feelings have been through out the pregnancy?  No matter how much you read or what people tell you, I think I would have been truly afraid.

Yes, giving birth is an incredibly joyous time and even with the “pain”, wonderfully emotional and loving moment in a woman’s life.

For  most women, the birth of their child is a breeze but not always.

Your wondering where is she going with this post. My purpose is Moms4Moms, a group of 12 bloggers and moms, leveraging the power of social media, the group plans to raise awareness and funds for the organization Every Mother Counts and WHY!

Did you know? There is one maternal related death every 90 seconds.

• 1 out of 5 moms in the U.S. die daily from maternal related issues.

• 15% of all pregnancies result in complications during labor and delivery and sometimes are fatal.

• Pregnancy is the biggest killer of girls ages 15-19.

• For every woman who dies in childbirth, 20 more suffer from debilitating complications.

• We have the knowledge to prevent 90% of all maternal deaths.

Those are pretty sobering statistics.

Moms4Moms asks: what if 1% of that $14.6 billion could be given to this cause?

Here’s How you Can Help.

  • Donate - What if we donated just a tiny bit of  approximately $14.6 billion*  that Americans will spend this year on gifts for Mother’s Day, to everymothercounts.org donated an old cell phone or wrote a post,
  • Write a blog post and post it on April 27th, that’s TODAY!
    • We’re hoping we can get hundreds of thousands of women to post all on the same day and show our unity behind better this issue.
    • Post this article or your own article on your blog on April 27th.
    • Tell the Moms in your network to commit to posting on April 27th.
    • Join us by hitting the “like” button on www.facebook.com/havemomentum and show your commitment to helping us spread the word about maternal health. Through our Facebook page we will be able to provide you with updates, information, the Moms4Moms badge and more.
    • Tweet and use this hashtag: #Moms4Moms to spread the word
  • Tweet - Even if you can’t write a post, I hope that you can tweet out one of the stats mentioned with #Moms4Mom

Here’s how you can do more.

Really great post! Even though you may have your what-ifs, raising a child as a single mother is super brave. I wonder if I would have had the strength to do that. Its great sharing this cause with you.
