Dear Daughter – Future Doctor or Humanitarian

[ 3 ] January 23, 2010 |
Thanks to my friend Nikki at blasianbabynotes for turning me onto Dear Kid Saturday and thanks to Christina at the cutestkidever.org for starting this trend. I love the idea of posting a letter to your child every week. So much about parenting is “don’t do this,” “no, thank you”,  ”this is a serious talk”, “let’s discuss,” “time outs,” “let’s review the rules again,”  ….. that we don’t stop to tell our child how much we appreciate them and all the great things they do as they develop and more importantly put it down in writing for them to see and for you as a parent to remember all the wonderful things about your child. Every Saturday, I will write a letter to my daughter so she can look back and really know how much she has changed and developed.

Dear Daughter.
While this may have seemed like a typical week, filled with the usual run to make the bus so we don’t have to walk to school in the freezing cold and longer the usual homework time (what is it with show your work???), you were so sweet when I did not feel well on Wednesday. Your capacity to empathize with my tummy ache was just so cute and thoughtful.

While all I wanted to do was crawl up in my bed and sleep, you went all by yourself and got me some ginger ale to make my tummy feel better and then made me drink it.

Then when I just did not feel like getting up to change into my pjs, you insisted “you can’t go to bed in your clothes, you have to change,” and then went and pulled them out and helped me change, I just wanted to hug you but I was just too tired.

Then you turned off the lights, and we went to sleep.

Thank you for being such a thoughtful and caring daughter.

Love always, mommy

P.S. For the record, I am fine, I think I was just fighting off a cold which I think has passed (let’s hope, since I did not get the H1N1 shot.)

Swati, thanks for your comment. As they grow, kids develop in such small ways, its is amazing.

I am trying to figure out how to incorporate the adoption story book into the blog.
